Digital Literacy to your community

Customized Workshops

Understand tech… a little!

Would you like to organize a customized workshop for your co-workers, community or friends with the goal of improving their understanding of tech? We are here to help!

Our topics range from teaching the basic concepts of tech and providing new insights on the industry, its history and its trends up to writing your first lines of code.

Empower your co-workers

Nowadays, everyone should have an understanding of tech. Be the one to motivate your staff members to start! Having tech savvy employees is key to organizational success.

Contact us for finding the right workshop for you, adapted to the existing knowledge level.

Break down the walls!

People throughout your organization may wonder:

  • How can I talk to the ‘IT guys* & gals*’?
  • What is coding or programming … Could I ever do it?
  • How does the internet work?
  • What about ‘hot topics’ like robotics or artificial intelligence?!
  • What is a frontend, a backend, a server?
  • Why is diversity important?
  • How can I build new skills, step by step?

At our workshops, we tackle important questions, awake the curiosity of the participants, teach and encourage them to gain more knowledge.

Diversity means democratization of knowledge! Our workshops are aimed at anyone with curiosity.

  • 👩‍🏫 Insightful presentations on trends & ‘hot topics’
  • 🤓 Teaching of useful knowledge and skills
  • 👩‍🦰 In-person 1:1 support by experienced coaches
  • 👩‍💻 Hands-on live coding (no experience necessary)
  • 💻 Fully online (currently)
  • 🎨 Customized to your wishes / topics
  • 💬 Taught in English, German or Swiss-German
  • 🕕 Typical duration: half a day
  • 👨‍💻 Open for everyone with a curiosity for tech
  • 🙋‍♀️Access to our alumni community for participants
  • 😃 Focus on learning & having fun
Benefits for participants
  • They gather a (basic) understanding of key concepts in tech and trends
  • They gain inspiring insights into the tech industry
  • They write their first lines in code (and learn that it is easy to start with, fun and can be learned step by step)
  • They connect with people in the company who share their motivation to build new skills

We can adapt our presentations to ‘absolute beginners’ as well as people with previous knowledge.

How we will achieve it
  • Every presentation entails interactive elements
  • We use meatphors and real-world examples rather than ‘insider vocabulary’
  • In our live coding sessions everyone can try how to code
  • Coaches are there to help with individual questions
  • Our speakers and coaches are women with a background in IT and/or who work in the industry

The future requires everyone to have new skills, whether they work in IT or not.

A basic understanding of key concepts of tech is necessary for everyone.

What are we talking about when we say tech? How nice would it be to be able to talk to the IT people about that stuff… Let’s do it!

We give an easy-to-understand yet far from superficial overview of the tech ecosystem and create parallels to systems and problems that your employees are familiar with.

We vividly explain key concepts such as backend, frontend, databases, servers or programming languages and discuss trend terms such as machine learning or robotics.

WHAT YOUR EMPLOYEES WILL LEARN & GAIN
– The meaning behind typical tech terms
– How the internet works, and related stuff, such as networks & cloud
– An understanding of trend terms like virtual reality
– How this all relates to your company – with customized examples
– We empower your employees to start their own ‘tech journey’ with tipps & resources

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE
– People with no or little IT background who want to be able to grasp basic concepts of tech
– People who feel like they need to build new skills but do not know where to start

DURATION
We may tailor our presentation to your employee’s knowledge level and your wishes for content depth. The minimum presentation should last 45 min.
Becoming tech savvy does not only mean understanding concepts, but also knowing a little how to code. (A lot of) coding is easy and can be done by everyone. And it is fun!

We program a MicroBit ‘mini computer’ in the popular programming language Python. Using short modules, participants program ‘flying text’ (e.g. ‘I love [your company name]’), a temperature display and a step counter.

If they encounter problems, coaches are there to help them individually. At the beginning, we explain some basics on codes and how algorithms rule our world.

The aim of the workshop is to give a mini-insight into coding. Participants gain an understanding on how to communicate with machines. We will also help them on how to continue their individual learning journey independently and step by step.

By the way: The MicroBit only measures a few centimeter, has an LED display and various sensors. We will provide one to each employee.

WHAT YOUR EMPLOYEES WILL LEARN & GAIN
– An understanding of what programming languages are and how algorithms help us solve problems
– A basic understanding of how a code is built
– First hands-on experience on how to code
– Concrete commands in the language Python
– We empower your employees to start their own ‘coding journey’ with tipps & resources

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE
– People with no ot little IT and coding background who want to be able to grasp basic concepts of coding
– People who feel like they need to build new skills (i.e. coding!) but do not know where to start
– People with a specific interest in Python; who want to start using Python for problem solving in their work

DURATION
We may tailor our workshop to your employee’s knowledge level and your wishes for content depth. The minimum presentation should last 2 hours.

REMARK:
Participants only need a laptop. The MircoBits are provided by us. After the event, they can be used as self-programmed step counters!
What exactly is the internet? The internet is not a ‘physical thing’, but rather an invisible network that binds us all together. We use it everyday and around the clock – it is high time everyone knows what it is all about!

Working with real-life metaphors and vivid examples, we give people with no IT background a good understanding of what the internet is and how it works. We explain related terms like ‘servers’ or ‘network’. And, of course, we discuss ‘hot topics’ like virtual servers or cloud computing.

WHAT YOUR EMPLOYEES WILL LEARN & GAIN
– The meaning behind the term ‘internet’
– How it works, and related concepts
– An understanding of ‘hot topics
– How this all relates to your company – with customized examples
– We empower your employees to start their own ‘tech journey’ with tipps & resources

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE
– People with no IT or little background and are curious about the internet (something they use every day)

DURATION
We may tailor our presentation to your employee’s knowledge level and your wishes for content depth. The minimum presentation should last 45 min.
In Switzerland, only 15% of women work in tech. Older generations are generally less tech savvy… We all know that tech is not really diverse. But why does it matter?

We don’t bomb listeners with facts & figures but share surprising insights and facts. Like: Did you know that machines can have ‘bias’ and act discriminatingly? Or that programming used to be a women’s job and was marketed to women as ‘it’s like following a cooking recipe’… What happened next? Also, do you know YOUR personal dangers of non-diversity in tech?! (Yes, this is also about what Google, Instagram, Amazon, etc. know about you and what they do with this knowledge.)

WHAT YOUR EMPLOYEES WILL LEARN & GAIN
– How bias is built into algorithms (and a basic understandig of the workings of machine learning)… What about ‘racist roboters’?!
– Insights on the current state
– Surprising historical facts on diversity
– Implications of diversity on product design (‘products made for men only’)
– You may add information on how your company tackles diversity
– And much more

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE
– Anyone who is interested in gaining awareness on why diversity in tech is important.
Women & men, younger and older generations alike are the target group of that presentation

DURATION
We may tailor our presentation to your employee’s knowledge level and your wishes for content depth. The minimum presentation should last 30 min.
